The Steve Allen Playhouse

The Steve Allen Playhouse is an old vaudeville theater in Hollywood, United States. Situated at 1228 N. Vine St on the corner with La Mirada, it was originally named the La Mirada Theatre and later the Filmarte Theatre.[1]

It was built in 1906 and was the theater where Bob Hope did his first stand-up act; it was also the theater where the You Bet Your Life program with Groucho Marx was filmed in the 1950s.

From 1962 to 1964, Steve Allen re-created The Tonight Show on a new late-night The Steve Allen Show, which was syndicated by Westinghouse TV at the theater. (Several sources have erroneously identified Allen's show using the name of his theater.)

It was reportedly owned by disco star Donna Summer in the 1970's

During a renovation in the 1990s, the entire interior of the building was burned out and it is now a mental health clinic.
